Coyotes Skaters Move On to Greensboro!

Kudos to our skaters who competed at the Pacific Coast Sectional Figure Skating Championships and Midwestern Sectional Figure Skating Championships and earned spots at the 2015 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Greensboro, N.C. in January!  In addition, two of our skaters received byes straight to Nationals! CSCA Skaters Earn First Jim Deese Award

Congratulations to Hannah Graff and Carter Griffin, the first recipients of the Jim Deese Award!  The award, presented at the Autumn Antics competition hosted by Skating Club of Phoenix,  is given to the most outstanding duet or group at the Freeskate 6 level or below.  Great job!

CSCA Sectional Team Exhibition

Please join us this Saturday, November 8, 2014, beginning at 2:45 p.m. for an exhibition skate by  several members of our Sectional team.  The exhibition will be held in the RJM Rink at Ice Den Scottsdale.  All club members, coaches, family and friends are invited to attend!


CSCA Skaters Head to Austria, Sectionals

Good luck to our skaters as we enter a very busy November!  Douglas Razzano will be heading to Graz, Austria to compete on behalf of Team USA at the Ice Challenge being held November 13-16.  Alexis Gagnon (Junior Ladies), Daniel Kulenkamp (Junior Men),  Megan Griffin and Andrew Civiello (Novice Pairs), Micah Tang (Novice Men),  Camden Pulkenin (Novice Men), Grant Kulenkamp (Intermediate Men), and  Megan Audet (with partner Jacob Wineland, Juvenile Pairs) will all compete at the  2015 Pacific Coast Sectional Championships November 18-22.  They will be joined by training mates Elena Pulkenin (Senior Ladies) and Mikey Smith (Intermediate Men).  Finally, Karina Manta (with partner Joseph Johnson, Junior Dance) will be competing at the&nsbp; 2015 Midwestern Sectional Championships the same weekend.  Best of luck to all!

Club Halloween On-Ice Costume Party

Club members and Ice Den Scottsdale Learn to Skate students are invited to a Halloween Spooktacular On-Ice Costume Party!  Come join in on the fun Sunday, October 26 from 11:00 a.m. - Noon on the Coyotes Rink at Ice Den Scottsdale.  There will be games as well as prizes for the spookiest and funniest costumes!  Hope to see you there!


Dorothy Hamill Fantasy Camp Exhibition

Please join us for a performance by the attendees of the Dorothy Hamill Fantasy Skating Camp Friday, October 24, at 12:45 p.m.  The performance will take place on the Coyotes Rink at Ice Den Scottsdale and will last approximately 30 minutes.  No entrance fee will be charged, but donations will be accepted.  All donations received will be generously donated to the Coyotes Skating Club of Arizona by the Dorothy Hamill Fantasy Skating Camp.


Coyotes Skaters Wow at Regionals!

CSCA skaters put on a great performance at the 2015 Southwest Pacific Regional Figure Skating Championships in Ontario, CA.  Congratulations to Alexis Gagnon (4th Place, Junior Ladies), Camden Pulkenin (2nd Place, Novice Men), Micah Tang (4th Place, Novice Men), and Grant Kulenkamp (7th Place, Intermediate Men) on qualifying for the 2015 Pacific Coast Sectional Figure Skating Championships!  Congratulations also to Jacqueline Benson (2nd Place, Novice Ladies QR C), Caroline Benson (3rd Place, Intermediate Ladies QR C), and Megan Griffin (4th place, Juvenile Girls QR A) for making the championship round in their events! Congratulations also go out to our medalists in the non-qualifying competition.  Kudos to Hannah Yambao (4th Place, Pre-Juvenile Girls Group B), Ryan Taylor (4th Place, Preliminary Boys) and Angelina Ruggiero (4th Place, Pre-Preliminary Girls Group E).  Complete results for our non-qualifying skaters can be found here.


Hal Marron Earns Second ISU Judging Appointment

Congratulations to Coyotes Skating Club of Arizona member Hal Marron who recently passed his International Skating Union world exam!  He is now only the second person in the United States that is an ISU Championship Judge in both Singles/Pairs and Dance. He has earned this honor in addition to his appointments as an ISU Championship Dance Controller, International Dance Referee, numerous US Figure Skating appointments, as well as a distinguished skating career.  Well done!


Kulenkamp Earns Junior Grand Prix Assignment

Kudos to Daniel Kulenkamp for being chosen to represent Team USA in the 2014-2015 Junior Grand Prix Series!  Daniel has been selected to compete at the JGP event in Zagreb, Croatia October 8-12, 2014!  Congratulations and Good Luck!


Aaron to Compete in Germany & Chicago

Fresh off their third place finish at the U.S. International Figure Skating Classic, Madeline Aaron and her partner Max Settlage travel to Oberstdorf, Germany, to represent Team USA at the Nebelhorn Trophy September 24-27, 2014!  Maddie and Max have also been added to the roster for Skate America, being held October 24-26, 2014 in Chicago, Illinois.  Congratulations and Good Luck!


National Solo Dance Series Finals

Congratulations to all of the Coyotes Skating Club of Arizona members who competed at the 2014 National Solo Dance Series Final held in Colorado Springs, Colorado, September 17-20, 2014!  Katie Shepherd earned a 6th place finish in Novice Combined Group A, including 4th place in the freedance.  Lauren Kobley earned a 7th place finish in Pre-Bronze Pattern Dance Group A, while Sakshi Wagh earned an 8th place finish in Preliminary Pattern Dance Group A and Merriam Aazami earned a 9th place finish in Juvenile Combined Group A.  Full results can be found here.  Congratulations to all!!

2015 Competition Team Breakfast

Join us as we recognize and celebrate our Coyotes Skating Club of Arizona 2015 Competition Team members!  A breakfast will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2014, at 18 Degrees Neighborhood Grill to wish them Good Luck as they begin their qualifying competition season.  We will also be recognizing the 2015 Regional Non-Qualifying competitors and those that competed at the 2014 SoCal Interclub Series Championships.  Non-club members may attend at a cost of $11 per person, and payment must be arranged with Judy Civiello prior to the breakfast.  Please view the invitation to rsvp no later than September 30.  A full list of 2015 Competition Team members can be found here.  Congratulations to all and Good luck!

Coyotes Skaters Grab Gold
in Salt Lake City

Congratulations to all of our members who competed in Salt Lake City this past weekend!  Daniel Kulenkamp brought home the gold in the Junior Men's event at the 2014 U.S. Challenge Skate, and Karina Manta (with Joseph Johnson) won gold in Junior Dance!  At the U.S. International Figure Skating Classic, Maddie Aaron (with Max Settlage) placed 3rd in Senior Pairs, while Douglas Razzano earned 4th in Senior Men!  In Novice competition at the Challenge Skate, Micah Tang earned a 4th place finish in Novice Men, while Megan Griffin and Andrew Civiello earned 4th in Novice Pairs.  Great job to all and good luck with your upcoming competitions!


Exhibition and Critique

All club members who have registered for qualifying or non-qualifying events at the 2015 Regional Championships or the 2014 National Solo Dance Series Final are invited to participate in an exhibition September 13, 2014 from 12:45-3:45 p.m. at Ice Den Scottsdale!  Critiques will be given to all skaters!  Please fill out the exhibition application, including coach's signature, and return no later than 5:30 p.m. September 10th.  Forms must be received, not postmarked, by that date.  The event is open to the public, so invite your friends and family to attend and cheer on our skaters!


CSCA Skaters Shine at 2014 National Showcase

Coyotes Skating Club of Arizona put on a spectacular performance in Burbank, California, at the 2014 National Showcase last weekend.  Liana Sherman took home top honors in the Interpretive event, winning both the Senior Interpretive event and the 2014 National Showcase Parade of Interpretive Champions!  Ryan Taylor earned gold medals in both the qualifying round and final round of the Preliminary Interpretive Event to also qualify for the Parade of Interpretive Champions, where he earned a 7th place finish!  Tianna Raught earned a first place finish in the Young Adult Light Entertainment event and scored a spot in the Parade of Junior Champions, where she earned 9th place!  Full results for all CSCA skaters are as follows:

2014 National Showcase and 2014 U.S. Collegiate Send-Off

Join us at the Ice Den Tuesday, August 5 beginning at 5:15 p.m. as we cheer on our club members as they get ready to compete at two upcoming competitions!  Marlene Bernstein, Caitlin Carreras, Mackenzie Carreras, Jaclyn Cartwright, Hannah Graff, Katy Krupinsky, Denae Raught, Tianna Raught, Danya Sherman, Liana Sherman, Grace Taylor, Ryan Taylor and Kailyn Wright will be attending the 2014 National Showcase competition August 8-10 in Burbank, California!  Liana Sherman will also be competing at the 2014 U.S. Collegiate Figure Skating Championships August 14-16 in Rochester, Michigan!  Good luck to all!


2014 Cactus Classic

Congratulations to everyone on a fantastic Cactus Classic!  Congratulations to all competitors, and thank you to our judges and officials for making the competition possible.  A special thank you goes out to our Co-Chairs Cristina Lipinski, Jeri Pulkenin, and Jeryl Owens for keeping the competition running so smoothly, as well as all of the committee chairs: Tuija Pearson (Registration), Brittney Nelson (Hospitality), Julie Gabriele (Hospitality Assistant), Susan Bonnell (Practice Ice), Donna Brotherton (Ice Monitor), Kim Krause (Volunteer Coordinator ), Kim Griffin (Hotel Hospitality), and Steve Fields (Set Up Crew Coordinator).  Additionally, thank you to all of our volunteers for all of their hard work!  We look forward to seeing you all next year!


Aaron Earns Grand Prix Assignment

Kudos to Madeline Aaron and partner Max Settlage (Broadmoor SC) who were chosen to represent Team USA at Skate Canada! The event is the second in the 2014-2015 Grand Prix series and will be held in Kelowna, British Columbia, October 31 through November 2, 2014!  Congratulations and Good Luck!


Razzano Earns Grand Prix Spot

Kudos to Douglas Razzano for being chosen to represent the USA in the 2014-2015 Grand Prix Series!  Douglas has been added to the roster for Skate America in Chicago October 24-26, 2014!  Congratulations and Good Luck!


Coyotes Ice Ensemble

Congratulations to the Coyotes Ice Ensemble team for their fantastic finish at the 2014 National Theater On Ice Competition!  The team earned a 5th place finish in the choreographic exercise and an 8th place finish in the freeskate for a 7th place finish overall in the Open division.  Great job to all!

Adult Nationals

Let's give a big Huzzah to the CSCA Adult skaters for their great performances at the 2014 Adult Figure Skating Championships! Marlene Bernstein earned a 4th Place Finish in the Adult Light Entertainment 4 event and a 10th Place Finish in the Adult Silver Dramatic 4 event, Heather Mrowiec garnered a 9th Place Finish in the Adult Silver Ladies Qualifying Round, Tracy Rineberg nailed two 3rd Place Finishes in the Adult Pre-Silver Solo Dance and Adult Silver Dramatic 1 events as well as a 5th Place Finish in the Silver Ladies 1 Freeskate event, while Donna Sparber earned a 5th Place Finish in the Adult Bronze Ladies 5 Freeskate event and a 7th Place Finish in the Adult Bronze Light 5 event.   Great job, Ladies!

Ice Den training mates Jose Hinojos and Brenda Wittman also had great skates. Jose scored two 1st Place Finishes in the Silver Men's 1/2 Freeskate and Adult Silver Dramatic 2 events and a 3rd Place Finish in the Adult Silver Dramatic 2 event, while Brenda earned two 6th Place Finishes in the Masters Intermediate Ladies 3/4 Freeskate and Masters Light 3 events and a 9th Place Finish in the Masters Dramatic 3 event. Skaters can now help out CSCA while they shop! Coyotes SC is registered with Frys Community Rewards, a program created by the Frys grocery store corporation, which donates funds to qualified non-profit organizations. Jim Deese
It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the recent passing of our club member, Jim Deese. Jim has been a long standing member of our CSCA Skating Family and the skating community of Phoenix for many years.

Jim was a skater and coach himself, as well as the husband of club member, fellow skater and USFS Judge, Heather Deese and the father and number one biggest fan of his daughter, Jamie who is also a fellow club member and double gold medalist competitor. Jim's smile, friendliness, enthusiasm for life, and the sport of figure skating will truly be missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 5th at the First Christian Church, 6750 N. 7th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85013. The church is located on 7th Avenue and Ocotillo Avenue, two blocks south of Glendale Avenue. Services will begin at 10:00 AM and conclude at 11:00AM. A balloon release and light refreshments will be served in the prayer garden following the services.

CSCA Skaters Earn Gold at Adult Sectionals
Our CSCA Adult skaters had great skates this year at Adult Sectionals! Kudos to Jody Billera on her 1st Place Finish in the Pre-Bronze Ladies III & IV Free Skate event and to Tracy Rineberg for her Two 1st Place Finishes in the Silver Ladies I Free Skate and Ladies I and II Dramatic events! Tracy also nailed a 2nd Place Finish in the Pre-Silver Solo Dance event, while Heather Mrowiec garnered a 5th Place Finish in the Silver Ladies III Free Skate and Marlene Bernstein earned 5th and 6th Place Finishes in the Silver Light Entertainment and Silver Ladies IV Dramatic events, respectively.

Aaron and Razzano Earn Post-Nationals Team USA Assignments
Following their stellar performances at Nationals, CSCA members Madeline Aaron (with Max Settlage) and Douglas Razzano have earned post-Nationals assignments on the World stage! Madeline and Max will represent the USA in the Junior Pairs event at the 2014 World Junior Figure Skating Championships and Douglas has been chosen as the 1st Alternate for the Senior Men event at the 2014 Four Continents Skating Championships! This is a great honor for Madeline and Douglas and acknowledges the hard work and success garnered in their respective skating careers! Let's give a big Huzzah to Madeline and Douglas and Good Luck wishes for 2014!

CSCA Skaters On The Podium At Nationals!
WOW! Our CSCA skaters gave commanding performances at the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Championships! Huge Kudos to Club members Madeline Aaron (with Max Settlage) and partners Megan Griffin and Andrew Civiello for nailing 1st Place finishes in the Junior Pairs and Intermediate Pairs events, respectively!

Fellow CSCA skaters also had great skates at Nationals! Douglas Razzano clinched a 6th Place finish in the Senior Men event, Micah Tang earned a 10th Place finish in the Novice Men Event, Karina Manta (with Jonathan Thompson) placed 10th in the Novice Dance event and partners Lynzee Moore and Matthew Rounis had an 11th Place finish in the Intermediate Pairs event.
